It is essential that the state auditor has strong auditing skills and years of financial experience. In order to supervise auditors and lead a department charged with overseeing and reviewing the way tax dollars are spent, anyone without the proper qualifications is ill equipped to safeguard the use of public funds.

Accounting is my chosen profession and my decision to run for the state auditor’s position in 2007 was not taken lightly. This is not a career move for me, it is a profession that I care deeply about and want to safeguard. I will not be using the Office of the State Auditor as a stepping stone to a higher elected position.

I want to thank all the people around the state that voted for me and supported me in the 2007 race.  I received the second highest vote total of any of the  democrats.  Being a unknown rookie at this, with no name recognition against a political name in Mississippi I faced an uphill battle.  Even though I was out spent about $500,000 to $19,000 in the general election I came extremely close to winning.  We ran a good clean race and I feel blessed and honored to have done so well.  I could not have done this without the help of  all my friends and supporters.
